A Prayer for My Baby at One Month Old

Baby Sonya,
You have grown so much this first month! You've nearly doubled your birth weight already to the doctors delight! You've brought Mommy and Daddy such delight, although your entrance into this world did give us quite a fright! You are our little miracle, and all we can do is thank God for you! We were so excited when we saw your first sleepy smile, and we were even more excited to see that smile directed at us! You're only 6 1/2lbs, but you seem so big to me. Don't grow too fast, Little Flower!
You won't remember this, but today we read the Proverb of the day together and I picked this verse to pray for you.

Proverbs 31:30
"Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth The Lord, she shall be praised."

I've little doubt that you will be outwardly beautiful, but even a clown can dress up and wear makeup. I pray that you will have the favor of God on your life and that He will grant you favor with others, just as He did with Joseph. I pray that His beauty will shine through you, and that no matter what the future holds, you will trust Him to carry you through. I think of Corrie ten Boom, and I wonder if God will ask my little girl to walk through the fires as she did. I pray that wherever God asks you to go, that you will go, and that you will do it with His power.

Am I a soldier of the cross,
A follower of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His Name?

Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?

Sure I must fight if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord.
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
By faith’s discerning eye.

When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all Thy armies shine
In robes of victory through the skies,
The glory shall be Thine.
-Isaac Watts

This prayer for you turned a lot more serious than I had planned, but as I hold you, I realize that my ability to protect you is so limited, and that one day I will have to completely relinquish my hold. Hold on to God, Little Flower, and you will never walk alone. One day this life on earth will be over, and only what you have done for Christ will matter.
Mommy and Daddy love you more than we can say, Baby. We pray we will be here to hold you and help you for many years to come!
With all our hearts,
Mommy and Daddy
