Tried With Fire

Image
There are no Heavenly scales weighing our good from our bad. At the time of salvation our Foundation is laid. This Foundation is solid, unmoving, unbreakable. This Foundation is Christ Jesus. On this Foundation we are left to build. Our building materials are these: gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, and stubble. Our goal is not to create a magnificent, perfectly designed structure, but rather to use building materials that are fire proof. With our actions we build a structure of our own choosing, of material of our own choosing. Everything done for self and earthly gain are comprised of wood, hay, or stubble. Everything done in the name of Christ, according to the words of Christ, are comprised of gold, silver, or precious stones. When we come to the end of life, a torch will be thrown into our structure. What will remain of your structure? You may have thought out every detail. No one saw your mistakes or maybe you made few; but if done for the wrong reason, yo...

1st Corinthians 1

Image
Lord, make me small that I may show Your love and grace compasses all. Make me weak; reveal my flaws,  That all may know Your wondrous laws. Lord make me dumb that Your words may flow. Make me a fool that the world may know, That in my weakness You are my strength; Where I fall short You span the length. In past or present I have no claim, For when I stood, You made me lame; And then you raised a rugged tree With the sinless Lamb for all to see. A Lamb so pure, all else looked black. A Lamb so whole, all others lacked. A Lamb who’s reaching for the lost With love to bear their heavy cross. This Lamb is mine! This God is great! This God can whole the broken make!  Don’t raise me up. Keep me small; But show through me, Your love for all. Drawn from 1st Corinthians 2

Psalms 143

When morning dawns and my flesh feels weak, My heart becomes heavy, my failures start to speak - Help me to hear Your loving voice Calling me to make You my choice. When filled with You, my spirit is light. My heaviness flees, my days become bright. Heal me from heartache. Deliver me from woe. Help me Thy strength in my weakness to know. Oh love of God, wash over my soul. Take over my fear and my spirit control. From sin I will run, from wrong I will flee, 'Til my heart again rests safely in Thee.

Opening Prayer Given by Billy Sunday to Open A Session of the House of Representatives in 1918:

Image
Recently reading a biography on the life of Billy Sunday, I ran across this prayer he prayed to open a session of the House of Representatives in 1918. This prayer tugged on my heartstrings considering that there are some who would see prayer removed from every faction of our lives. Christians are called bigots and intolerant, but as my husband was told recently in a conversation by one such person, their intolerance for Christianity is justified and even necessary. It seems strange that a group of people who follow the teachings of One who taught that they are to love their enemies are considered so dangerous. If you aren't aware of a fire chief that was recently relieved of his job because he wrote a book for his church in which he said God says homosexuality is wrong, please read here. The following is a breath of fresh air, but also a sad reminder of the freedoms we are losing. Oh to have the boldness to lovingly sand up for what God says is right, and share His love with...

Ginger Tea Recipe - Good for what ails you!

Image
I’ve had a couple people ask me for my ginger tea recipe so I thought I’d post it here, and list some of the possible health benefits. I never feel better physically than when I am drinking this tea on a regular basis. My father-in-law suffers from regular kidney stones, and we have found that this drink really helps to relieve his pain. If you’re looking for something that tastes sweet, this won’t be your cup of tea. (Get it? Cup of tea – and it’s a post about tea… Never mind.) This tastes healthy! So make up your mind to be healthy, plug your nose, and sip. But be healthy! (I Corinthians 6:19-20) Here’s what I do. It’s not a science. Nothing is measured. But it does seem to help with whatever ails you.  Witches Brew: (Bro. Jim O’quinn gets the credit for the name.) Ingredients: Ginger, Lemon, Water, Chamomile, and/or Green Tea -         1.   Cut up about a tablespoon of fresh ginger. (You can use a ginger tea...

Sonya Joy - 11 Months Old

Image
What happened August 2014 After the Northeast Summit we decided to spend some time together as a family. Matt used all of his vacation days last year in the NICU with Sonya and me, so we were looking forward to a vacation that was actually a vacation! So we found a free zoo in Cape May, NJ. We had a lot of fun looking at the animals, and although Sonya was still tired from the conference, she perked up when she saw the animals! Oh Yeah! We are excited! Maybe not, so excited... Some animals are just too friendly. People kept stopping to look at Sonya, so we thought about putting her in her very own exhibit... But the goats didn't want to share their pen. "Daddy kept me safe from the animals." This guy one ugliest animal award! This guy won coolest animal award Cutest animal Scariest animal Sonya liked the Zebras. And what's not to like?   After the zoo we went to Wildwood, NJ to walk on the pier and to...
