Almost Ready for Her!

Several weeks ago people started asking me if I was ready for our little girl to make her appearance. I said, "Absolutely not! The room isn't painted yet!" It wasn't too long after we found out we were expecting a girl that I started to look on Craigslist for furniture that would go well in a baby room. I try to keep from impulsive and expensive buys by asking myself these two questions: Is it a good deal and do I absolutely love the item(s). Asking myself these two questions helped secure a $60.00 wicker furniture set, a $90 crib that transitions from a crib - to a toddler bed - to a twin sized bed, we found a 9 piece crib set for $75 that was both elegant but cute. However, none of this felt like an accomplishment because the room was still a dark forest green and brown!
Matt teasingly kept reminding me that he had picked out these colors and that he was offended I didn't want to use them for our little girl. He sweetly took me shopping for paint though. I had thought about wallpapering one wall as an accent wall, but when I learned I would have to sell my left leg and right arm to be able to afford it... I decided little Sonya would survive quite nicely without an accent wall! (Wallpaper is expensive!)
The painting took me a week since I was still working in the mornings. I felt like it would never end! I've already discussed with Matthew that I don't plan to ever paint another room again. Spray paint is as close as I plan to come to painting ever again! It's only fair to say that I was offered help several times, but it was the week of our church revival... and Matthew was working overtime... and I'm just not a patient person!
One week and three coats of paint later:
We were able to use some gift cards we were given to buy a rug from target.
I painted and hung two birdcages I found for $15. I found the flowers for $1.50 at a consignment store. This was something I had seen on Pinterest and thought was cute.
One of my favorite parts of the room is the chandelier. I found it at Home Depot for $99 and almost bought it because it was the first one I had really fallen in love with. But was it a good deal? I went home hoping I could find a coupon online. Home Depot puts out coupons but most of them are for large appliances. So, I was going to do it. I was going to buy it full price, but then when I went to buy it online it was out of stock! So - I looked on eBay, and found the same exact chandelier for $35. Yes! It was meant to be! Admittedly, I had to find a few pieces of hardware that weren't in the box, but the man I bought it from covered the cost which kept me from feeling too stupid. In the end, it was worth it!
My latest find was a $40 glider and ottoman. I had been looking for a glider with an ottoman since I began planning the Baby's room. But gliders are expensive. The one we found is in great condition, and in the end, I am so glad we waited until I found a good deal!
My very first project was the last thing that got hung - the Baby's name. We're so excited to meet this little girl, and it is such a relief to know we've got a pretty place to bring her home to! We love you already Sonya Joy!
We would appreciate your prayers. We had an ultrasound on Monday and the doctor is somewhat concerned about the growth of the Baby. Please pray that she will continue to gain weight properly. It will be such a relief to hold her in our arms and to know that she is okay! Thank You, God, for this precious little gift!

  1. I would love to hear from you if you had time to email me once in awhile. I'll be praying for Sonya. Ashley is on Facebook if you no longer have our email and need it to get it.
    Love and prayers,
